Annapolis
July 9, 2004

John and I separated this day and I spent the time in Annapolis and the home of my brother, Ed Wright.  We journeyed out to Annapolis for the day.  We ate on the veranda of a beautiful riverside restaurant. We toured the Naval Academy.  The museum was outstanding featuring incredible models of 16th and 17th century sailing ships as well as a whole section dedicated to the modern Navy.  We also visited the tomb of John Paul Jones.  It was a fitting tribute to America's first naval hero.

Severn Sailing Association
Summer Sailing Series
July 10, 2004

After spending Friday with my brother Ed and his wife Rachel in Annapolis,  I got up Saturday morning and drove over to Severn Sailing Association.  John met me there with his sister, Judy.  Last summer, Judy joined us for racing at Solomon's Island, but the wind would not cooperate.  We hoped for better luck this year.  We were hosted by Jamie Brickel who showed us the ropes at the club.  Soon we were rigged, launched, and heading out to the Chesapeake.

There was just enough wind to race, but not enough to overcome the immense powerboat chop.  We held our own and enjoyed the day, but the chop was a huge distraction.  We headed in after two races.  The chop in the channel was even worse as 50 footer after 50 footer churned by.  We jumped on the tail of big schooner heading back in and made our way to the club.

We said goodbye to Judy.  We owe her a lot.  The 2003 and 2004 safaris just wouldn't have happened without her gracious hospitality.  Thank-you Judy.

That night, Ed and Rachel hosted us for a great meal at their apartment.  It was a great end to safari.

Sunday morning we hooked up 14620 and headed home.
