SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The
regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the current Racing Rules of
Sailing 2005-2008 and the rules of the Thistle Class Association.
Competitors
must be R & D members of the Thistle Class.
Notices
to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located on the patio
under the LMSC clubhouse. Notices for Saturday’s racing may not be posted after
11:00 or the start of the competitor’s meeting. Notices for Sunday racing may
not be posted after 7:00 PM Saturday.
Signals
made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole located in front of the sailing
club. If a postponement is signaled ashore, the warning signal will be made not
less than one hour after AP is lowered.

The
class flag will be the Thistle class flag and a numeral 1 pennant for the
Lightnings
The
racing area will be the larger body of water to the east of LMSC, it is
approximately ½ hours sailing time to the course area.
The
courses will be windward-leeward X2 courses. The starting mark (leeward and
finish mark) will be a yellow tetrahedron; the windward mark will be an orange tetrahedron.
In the event of a course change the new mark may be a yellow tetrahedron. The
attached diagram shows the approximate course configuration, order of marks,
and the rounding direction of each mark.
The
starting line will be between an orange flag on the RC boat and the yellow
tetrahedron, the finishing line will be between an orange flag on the RC boat
or a smaller RC mark boat and the finishing mark. The starting sequence
outlined in Rule 26 will be used. The warning signal will be 5 minutes before
the starting signal.
The
time limit for each race will be 1 ½ hours for the first boat to finish. Boats
finishing more than 30 minutes after the first boat that sails the course
finishes will be scored DNF. This changes RRS 35.
Protests
shall be delivered to the race committee chair at the official notice board
within 45 minutes after the race committee finish boat docks. The protest time
limit and a list of protests received will be posted on the notice board.
Hearings will be held as soon as possible after racing each day in the LMSC
board room.
The
Low Point System of Appendix A of the racing rules will apply. All scores will
count. Five races are scheduled. One race constitutes a series.
Trophies
will be awarded to top three places for both Thistles and Lightning Classes.
