Larry Frost, with crew Chance Miller and Michael Levert, added the 2005 GYA Championship to his District Title won earlier in the year during the PCYC Birthday regatta. Only one race was completed on Saturday after a squall challenged the competitors with a large shift and abrupt increase in breeze. Gene Walet managed best in the shortened race but only after early race-leader Eric Aschaffenburg failed to see the shorten course signal and relinquished the lead. Larry Frost sneaked in to grab second with Eric third. On Sunday, the fleet got an early start and were pleasantly surprised by atypical early morning breezes that built throughout the day. Defending champs Team Brierre won three of the four races of the day but their opening race 7th was too much to overcome as Larry sailed consistently, never finishing worse than 2nd, easily winning the championship. Eric Aschaffenburg held on to edge out Gene Walet for third spot. Many thanks and congratulations to Danny Killeen and crew for excellent Race Committee work and to PCYC for great hospitality.

Scott Anderson of Dallas came on strong in the final two races to pass Larry Frost and Cal Herman to win the 2005 Juby Wynne Regatta in a tie-breaker, while Larry won the 2005 Southern District Championship as the top finisher from the district. The regatta marked the return to the Lightning for Cal, who was a Lightning mainstay in past years and looked like he hadn't missed a beat winning the first two races. The first | |||||||||
