CAROLINA

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Rules: The regatta will be governed by the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of US Sailing, the rules of the International Lightning Class Association, and the sailing instructions.
(a) The Sailing Instructions will be available at registration.
(b) The two-turns penalty as provided in RRS (2005-8) Rule 44.2 will apply with the additional provision that when an infringing boat has its spinnaker drawing at the time of the infringement, the penalty is a one-turn penalty instead of a two-turns penalty. The infringing boat must drop the head of its spinnaker below the gooseneck while taking her penalty, reset it, and have it drawing after the penalty.
(c) The race committee will monitor channel 78 for the purpose of communicating with competitors. This will enable the RC to let competitors know about weather conditions, status of setting up courses and starting races, and inform competitors of OCS.
(d) A competitor that uses a radio as a form of communication shall withdraw from that race unless the Race Committee deems the use was for emergency reasons. This restrictions also applies to mobile phones and other forms of electronic communication.
Eligibility:
(a) Lightnings
must hold valid Measurement Certificates and must display a valid membership
decal and mast decal.
(b) There will
not be any sail or boat measurements conducted.
Scoring:
(a) Abbreviations for scoring shall be in accordance with
RRS (2005-8) Appendix A 11.
(b) 5
races are planned and each boat will count all of her scores. One race
constitutes a regatta.
(c)
All races will be sailed in the ocean.
(d)
When there
is a tie on total points between two or more boats at the end of a series, the
tie will be broken in favor of the boat or boats with the most first places,
and, when a tie remains, the most second places, and so on. When a tie still
remains, it shall be broken in favor of the boat which beats the other(s) in
the last untied race of the series. All races, including those possibly
excluded in calculating total points shall be considered for the purpose of
breaking ties. This paragraph modifies RRS (2005-8) Appendix A 8.2.
