 Notice of Race

Rules:

The Regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing and the prescriptions of US SAILING (2009-2012) and the International Lightning Class Association (ILCA) except as any of these are altered by the sailing instructions that shall be available at registration. 

All boats shall be equipped with proper safety equipment including PFD’, throwable cushion, paddle, bucket, anchor & 50' line

Radio communication from a competitor during a race is not permitted except for an emergency. The race committee will not respond to transmissions from competitors except to acknowledge retirements, protests, penalties reported, or requests for emergency assistance.  The VHF channel for communications will be posted on the course board.  Race committee broadcast concerning its intentions, the course to be sailed, starting times, course changes, etc. are a courtesy only.  Failure of the race committee to make a broadcast, the timing of a broadcast, or the failure of a boat to hear a broadcast shall not be grounds for redress under RRS 62.1 (a)

Schedule of Events:

Friday, October 1

3:00 p.m.                        Club facilities open.  Practice if you would like.

Saturday, October 2

10:30-11:00 a.m.            Registration - Sailing Instructions available.

11:00 a.m.                        Competitors Meeting (Clubhouse)

12:00 p.m.                        Warning Signal Race 1 followed by subsequent races

06:00 p.m.                        Hors d’ oeuvres and Beverages

07:00 p.m.                        Dinner

Sunday, October 3

10:00 a.m.                        Warning signal, next race followed by subsequent races

Awards Ceremony after final race

Registration and Fees:            Registration fee $90.00 (includes SELD fee of $7).  If outside of the SELD, the fee will be $83.   If not a member of US Sailing, add $5.00.   Registration includes 3 dinners, Hors d’oeuvres, Beverages and Continental Breakfast each morning. Extra dinners are $15.00 each.  Dinners for children 6- 10 years are $8.00.  Five and under are free.

Please notify Pam Burke by e-mail, phone or SELD Scratch List on or before WEDNESDAY, September 29 if you plan to attend.  Please email special requests, i.e. vegetarian and indicate there are any extra meals.   Thanks for your early registration!

Racing Area:             Lake Lanier (Generally in front of LLSC)

Scoring:              The Low Point scoring System, Appendix A of the racing rules will be used.  Each boat’s score shall be the sum of its races.

Alternative Penalties:  The 720 Turns penalty as modified by Lightning Class rules will apply.

Awards:            Awards will be given to the top three skippers and crew.

                        From the North:  Take I-85 south to Hwy 53 Exit 129 at Braselton-Winder.  Take a right.  Go West to Oakwood on Hwy 53  - 10.8 miles.  Continue on Hwy 53 under I-985 for another 2.4 miles.  The road will end.  Take a left on to McEver Road going south for 4.3 miles. Take a right at the light on to Jim Crow Road (Chevron on corner.)

                         From the South:  Take I-85 north from I-285 for approximately 20 miles.  Bear left on to Exit 113 which will be I-985 to Gainesville.  Go 8.0 miles to Exit # 8 – Friendship Road (to end of ramp 8.3 miles).  At the exit light, take a left going west over I-985 on Friendship. The next turn will be at the 4th traffic light at McEver Road which will be a total of 1.4 miles. (Note:  West Marine will be on your right about .5 mile after you turn on Friendship in case you need anything).  At the light at McEver (note Texaco on corner), take a right going north.  Next light will be 1.8 miles - Gaines Ferry Road.  Go straight on McEver to 2nd light 2.3 miles.  Go straight to 3rd light .7 mile.  Take a left on to Jim Crow Road (Chevron on corner.)

                        These directions apply to both:  Go west on Jim Crow for 2.4 miles.  You will see a white fence at the club.  Make a left.  Continue straight through the stop sign, up the hill and down to the clubhouse. Camping area is on dirt road to the right of the clubhouse.

 Launching:            Two launching ramps – A–dinghy lot –nearest the clubhouse

(Note:  There is great camping at the club!  The hotels listed above are 15-25 minutes away.  The (*) hotels are the closest.

 

Camping:            Numbered campsites are available on the club grounds down a short dirt road to the right of the clubhouse.  Most sites have a picnic table and a post to hang your lantern.  There are only 3 pits where open fires are allowed.  The bathhouse is located near the A-dinghy launch ramp.
