The Southeastern Lighting District sailed on Lake Waccamaw this weekend for the eighth traveling regatta of the season.  With the winds very light on Saturday at the skippers meeting, it looked like a no-wind regatta was in the making.  However, the wind built throughout the day and in race one “Big Daddy” Bob Harkrider, with ace crew David and Babydoll, found a private puff that took them from a small lead at the windward mark to a horizon job by the finish.  The rest of the fleet had to fight it out for leftovers and practice, which paid off for Richard Waldrich, with crew Carol and Ellie, finishing second.  Race two brought another bullet for the Harkrider team followed closely by Pierce Barden, with crew Will and Gib.  Race four of the day brought drifting conditions to Waccamaw.  Pete Marriott, with crew Pam and Randy, went hard right, then hard left, drifting to a close finish in front of team Harkrider.

Saturday night brought good drinks to be shared among good friends.  Dinner was wonderful Carolina Barbecue with all of the fixings.  After dinner we all listened to some wonderful sailing tales.

Sunday brought on wind and a slight chill in the air as we left the dock for the 8:30 warning signal.  Team Harkrider finished the regatta with two more bullets and the rest of the fleet vied for second which Pierce took, followed by Pete, John, Bill, Richard, Paul and Dave.  It was a weekend of good racing and I hope that you all had a great time.
